Spinnaker Rigging on Hunter 34

I am building an Asymmetrical Spinnaker for my H34 this Spring and have a couple of questions about rigging it. I will be creating a 10' tack line with a couple of blocks for mounting. I intend to put an eye in the tack line and attach my unused staysail halyard to it for cockpit adjustment of the tack.

My question is where to attach the block. My Forestay/Furler is attached to the metal strap rising from the Anchor roller. There are a series of unused holes in the roller assembly, but they are all aft of the forestay. There is some meat on the steel forward of this point to drill a hole to mount the block, but thought maybe I should see how others do this.

When flying, does the tack line go inside or outside of the pulpit railing? Where do you guys mount the block for the tack line?

I appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Hi Larry,
First let's make sure I am not confused by the way you write your question. An asym, like a jib, has a head, a tack an a clew eyelets. On your 34, like on mine, you need a halyard from mast top, above the jib halyard, to hoist the asym. The tack line is run through a block installed in front of the jib, outside of the pulpit. It can be led to the cockpit if you want or simply attached to one of the forward cleats if you want to keep it to a 10' length. You then run 2 sheets from the clew to each side of the boat, making sure that the lazy sheet runs in-between the headstay and the asym so you can gybe when needed. Depending how strong and secured your anchor roller is, you could drill a hole ahead of everything else and install your block there. Good luck

Sorry for the lack of detail. I intend to run the Asym in front of the Jib (outside gybes). I have a spin halyard and understand the sheet arrangement. It sounds like the tack line should be run outside the pulpit. I am thinking maybe I could run a strap around the roller to hold the block. There are also two holes in the roller assy just above the roller. I assume that a pin goes in there to keep the anchor or chain inside the roller assembly. I am also thinking that I could put a forged pin in there and attach the block to it.

Please confirm that the tack line should lead from the roller forward of the pulpit to the spinnaker.

I run mine forward of the pulpit with the block shackled to a D shackle that is pinned through a hole in the anchor roller bracket behind the holes for the pin to hold the anchor in place

Ditto Re forward of the pulpit except I have rigged a boom bail at the forward end of the anchor roller (WM page 1026, item C, 183272) on which the block is installed. And yes the tack line is in front of the pulpit but the block arrangement allows for it to run under the pulpit all the way to the cockpit if you want.

If you can enlarge the pictures, you'll see that the tack line runs in front of the pulpit. You will not see the block because of the angle of the pic but you will see the boom bail.

Something you might want to consider is adding a sprit pole for the akite. I built one for my boat and it greatly improves the gybe angles allowing you to sail much deeper.

Great idea Alan ! Is it installed permanently ? If removable, how do you keept it in position ?
