Spinnaker Pole

Long time reader, first time poster

I have just bought a beaut 393 made in 2005.

I need a spinnaker pole for her. Is there a set formula for length?

Mainly to use to pole out the headsail as the new gennaker doesn't use a pole.

I am also looking at building a bimini and an arch for solar - perhaps combined ... Any good designs out there?

Congrats on your boat. I think what you want is more properly called a whisker pole.
Check out Forespar they make all sorts of poles.

Spinnaker poles are made to a specific dimension, if you want to do it right. It is the boat's "J" dimension, which is the straight line distance from the front of the mast at deck level, to the headstay.

RIG DIMENSIONS
Mast: Classic / Furler
I = 46'1" / 46'1"
J = 14'6" / 14'6"
P = 40'4" / 40'0"
E = 15'1" / 15'1"

So that would make it approx 4419 mm.

Cann't hepl with the pole but have mounted 2 x 120W panels (backstay is in the gap between the panels which are aligned fore & aft) & attached to the Bimmini frame. The bimmini frame was modified by replacing the tensioning straps with tube. all the mounting pionts are SS (got rid of the plastic bits). Did not like drilling cable holes thru the deck but had no choice. I run 3 seperate electical circuits A. for starting B. for fridge (runs 24 x 7 with deep cycle batteries) & C for house/nav. Biggest worry is high winds on an exposed mooring no troubles so far & I think the dogger realy helps.
