Does anyone have any tips on spinnaker handling on the Hunter 170, both for launching and retrieving? Is anyone using anytype of bag or tube? Poles? thanks, Steven

Spinnaker handling

Hunter does sell a spinnaker kit. I use mine just pulling it out of the front storage compartment. I leave the first couple of snaps undone. Works quite well

Two tips

1. Buy the chute. Less trouble, no tearing. 2. Be sure to run the clew line completely outside all shrouds and lifelines. Otherwise it will foul.

I use a 6 Gallon Plastic Bucket

and when I go out I am all set up so if I get a good downwind run I use it. The bucket is a good place to store the spinnaker and all lines. After use I hang all the lines and spinnaker off the mast and rinse good and wind dry. Make sure you don't put it away wet. Oh yeh, I single handed sailor. I furl the main and jib when I run up the spinnaker. I kind of like it since the asymetrical lets you come around to a beam reack when wind is low. Yeah, keep your knife at hand to cut loose if you get in trouble. Even if you have to cut a couple of lines you should be able to hang on to the spinnaker, but it's only some material.
