I'm contemplating an asymmetric spinnaker and am curios about the halyard configuration. My Isomat spar has a sheave a few inches above the forestay (jib halyard is a few inches below) and I am concerned that this sheave may be for an additional jib halyard and not intended for a spinnaker. Most spinnaker halyard configurations I'm familiar with use an additional, externally hung, "bullet" type block mounted a few inches below the sheave to prevent the halyard from chafing (sp) on those wild and woolly days. There is not enough room to do this on my mast. Any Suggestions/Experiences? Dave

Up the Mast a Little

Dave, I have an asymmetrical that I fly on my 88 30. For a few years I used the exit block just above the forward stay termination. I had chafe problems and sometimes if I wasn't careful I would catch the halyard in the jib furler bearing assy. I finally bought and installed an exit block from Schaffer. I installed it a couple of feet up the mast. Works Just great. Incidentally Cruising Direct has some great deals on imported asymmetricals that will fit that boat. It will do wonders off wind in light air and on a long whisker pole does quite well straight downwind. Frank
