Has anyone added a spinnaker to a Hunter 146 yet? We've got one on a fairly large lake in Michigan and it would be really fun to put a chute up for some longer downwind runs. Any advice on how to rig a halyard, length, and where to find a sail would be awesome. Thanks! Brian

Spinnaker?

If would need to all be custom I dont think they make it stock. Its doable. You can get the hardware from hunter and the chute and stick it all up.

Spinnaker?

I figured it would likely be a custom job. Anyone ever done it? I'd like to minimize hardware (i.e. holes drilled in the hull). I wonder if the jib sheet cleats could double as spinakker sheets? Not sure where I could mount twangs though... maybe it would be best to just keep going wing on wing :)

Well

Theres a certian amount of holes that need drilled anyway when you add a spinnaker such as 4 holes in the bow for the sprit and if the mast dont have a pulley it needs one hole I d let a pro do that one it really needs a stainless steel rivit in that hole any they are put in with a pnumatic rivit gun, cant do stainless with a hand rivit gun. So thats 5 holes. And there is a jam cleat at the bottom of the mast for the haylard that takes 2 holes. the back of the boat take blocks and they hook onto the cleats there. indide the boat youve got 4 small block and that takes 1 screw each. Thats 8 holes in the boat andprobably 4 holes in the mast thats standard for the 170.

Risky

Brian, At one time I spoke to my dealer about putting an assymetrical on my 146. He was game to cut one for me and was going to talk to Hunter. Hunter never got back to him. I subsequently gave up the idea after I started to see cracks forming where any hole was drilled in the plastic for hardware. I had my first hull replaced (Hunter was good about it) and now my second hull has developed its first crack by a stay (Hunter has not responded after many months.) You may want to consider what adding the stress from a spinnaker might due to your warranty on your hull. Hopefully you never experience the cracking, but it could be worse if Hunter refused to support the warranty due to modifications. You may want to ask them first before drilling holes.... Wayne
