I'm planning on ordering a asymmetrical spinnaker in the next few days . . .one sailmaker has proposed a .75oz dacron and another a 1.2oz dacron. Can any one help me understand why I should order one or the other? I would lean toward the heavier fabric . . .but I wonder if this will decrease performance in light air . . .???

Heavier fabric will decrease light air performance. Ask the lofts what wind range their sails are designed for and compare to the wind your likely to fly the spinnaker in. Be realistic, are you going to fly a spinnaker if your genoa is working well?

Good point Rick . . .but the Hunter 23.5 . . .
The foredeck rigging layout of the Hunter 23.5 makes it almost impossible to fly a jib/genoa larger than the standard issue 110. I agree that if a larger genoa would work I'd be putting on a 150 furling sail rather than fooling with the spinnaker. Thanks for the response about the fabric weight . . .sounds like I need a .75oz fabric rather than the 1.2oz.

3/4oz chute
a 3/4 ounce chute is good in wind conditions to about 18 knots apparent, which downwind will translate to 23-27 knots true. most of us take the chute down in winds higher than that unless we're racing.
