where does one cleat the assemetrical spinnaker's sheet that is part of Hunter's performance package? there are two blocks, one near the stern, one about mid cockpit, but there isn't a cam cleat with either one. i don't have any experience with a spinnaker. but from the photo in Hunter's sales literature, it looks like the spinnaker sheet goes to the farthest aft block, then forward to the mid cockpit block, and the crew is hand holding it. it seems to me that i'll need a cleat near the mid cockpit for the sheet. any advise is appreciated. thank you. doug

Hand-holding is good, actually

But the answer to your question is: from the aft block to the winch. Here’s an easy-to-make bowsprit, seats in the anchor locker. This will throw the spin ahead of the main, less blanketing. Tack line and 2 sheets permanently deployed for quick setup. (Note that the link here has 2 pages of pix and directions.)

No cleat for spinnaker

Doug, I have an H216 and am new to asym spinnakers also...but, from what I've read and my experience so far you do not want to cleat the spinnaker. The spinnaker trimmer really needs to both work the sheet and tell you what is going on (e.g., "going soft" so you can steer properly). I did install a cam cleat just forward of the midships block as we found that occasionally it was desirable to *temporarily* cleat it while doing something else. For example, it is tough to trim the tack line while holding the sheet if you only have two on board. Normally the sheet goes to the rear block then to the midships block. I installed an ATN Spinnaker Sleeve to help tame the beast and it really helps. Start reading in earnest or get someone more experienced to help you fly it. Flying the spinnaker is a blast!
