Thanks all for helping answer all of my questions so far. I have just completed an inventory of the sails that came with my boat. I have a seemingly brand new spinnaker. My question is, what do I need to fly it (sheets, fittings, poles etc)? I am guessing there is at least a pole required. My boat is a 1980 S299 Thanks, Peter

Interesting Read, What is the minimum equipment

I see that there are many options for rigging a boat for flying a spinnaker. I even learned some new terms like foreguy and fairead block. In the case of the boat pictured on the west marine advisor site, would all of the equipment listed be required, or is there some combination of existing winches ans cleats that I can use. It looks like the "reaching strut" might be an option only for those in serious racing. Can I use my Jib winches and cleats? Can I go without "foreguy, lazygut etc? Thanks, Pete

OK - now read this Harken site.

This will tell you what you can use as a bare minimum. Cheers.
