I ould like to know the proper attachment point on the masthead for my spinaker for my O Day 25..
The previous owner was using a block below the forestay...I dont think that this is correct..The spinaker would get wrapped around the forestay, not good!

Can I or should I atttach a block to the loop in front of the masthead?

You are correct above the forstay.

The proper place is a bail on the masthead. Most yards know how to put one on that is safe and secure. Some mastheads are drilled for a bail.

A bail allows for block to turn or slide to a different angle on the masthead.

The previous owner either did not know, or, if he did know, he didn't want to maybe go through the expense and bother to run a proper halyard for the spinnaker and thought he could get away with it inside the forestay.

I've got a small block on the bail at the masthead since the bail is there already and I had to add a second halyard anyhow. It would work below or alongside of the forestay, in fact many boats are rigged this way. It just causes some chafe but can easily be dealt with. The spinnaker can wrap around the forestay no matter where the halyard is located.

the halyard below the for-stay is probably for the up-hall of the spin pole or whisker pole if the boat came with a symmetric spinnaker of course then it would have a down-hall at the base of the mast.
