I checked the archives for info on spin-Tec furlers and to my surprise found only one posting. Has anyone instaled a Spin-Tec and if so, what has the experience been in 15-25 knot winds on a Catalina 30 or larger? They seeem to work in a different way than other furlers and look simple and reliable but the lack of postings gives me pause and I may go for the "safer" ProFurl if there isn't a lot of experience with the Spin-Tec. If not, my question is why not?

Go for it!

I installed the Spin-Tec furling system on my Cat 30 this summer. I had the old original crusing design that was in need of replacement. For about $1300.00 compared to the other brands which would run at least $1600.00 to $2400.00 I got alot more furling system for the money. It's stainless steel construction makes it bullet proof. It's not that difficult to install and the furling of the sail is a breeze. I have had my C-30 on the Cheasapeak Bay with 20Knts of wind with a 135 geny only partial deployed and the spin-tec worked great. I would recommend the system and would diffinetly buy another for a blue water cruiser. The individual who ran the boat yard is from South Africa and he stated "that's the kind of gear we use back home". The seas and wind off of South Africa are not to be taken lightly. Anyway, good luck.

Halyard accessory

Has anyone used the halyard accessory or have you gone up the mast? What keeps the halyard accessory from simply sliding out of the upper loop?
