Oday 28 key west
Hey guys- New sailor here looking for some help at repairing my newly boat Oday 28'. There are a couple of spots on my boat wher the fiberglass gets these hairline splints 'spidering' out a bit like a window would crack or whatever. what are some of the best remedies for this and/or most cost effective/practical solution to the problem. thanks for any help you can give!! have fun, be safe, and stay smiley! spider cracking

On an older boat you tend to live with some degree of spider cracking. I think its more tolerable in some spots than in others. Where is this occurring on the boat. I have not tried it but I have heard of a remedy by Capt Tolley where the cracks get filled with a liquid sealer. I found the site for you. Perhaps others can give you a first hand opinion of it?

When we had our Sunstar 28 surveyed, he showed me a couple of spider cracks in the stantion areas. Said that they were usually caused by something hard having been dropped on the deck. He said not to worry about the couple that he pointed out, that it was hard to gain anything by trying to fill them as the patch was usually as ugly as the crack. Or at least I remember something to that effect. :)

"Creeping Crack Cure"

Despite the name, I don’t think “Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure” actually cures (the causes) of stress cracks (spider cracks). Nonetheless, as a "thinned{ epoxy, it can seal them against water intrusion. http://www.captaintolley.com
