Has anyone a good method of ridding my mast head of spiders and their webs? My Windex and Wind indicator donot operatee properly.

Spiders

I promise I will not make a snide and self-centered reply to this thread. I have had pretty good luck spraying (with spider spray) the masthead before stepping, and, then after launching in the spring spraying docklines, fenders, and shorepower cords. Seems to work! Good luck! Doug

After 12 Years

of fighting spiders on my boat, I have given up on the masthead. I am just fighting for the rest of the boat. There is a product called Viper or Vicor that can be mixed in a spray rig and used to slow spiders down. It works real good except the rain keeps washing it off. One of my dockmates took some and put it into his soap dispenser on his power washer along with soap. As he washed his boat, the spiders were coming out of holes everwhere. The EPA would have had heart failure had they seen it. But after the next rain, they came back. They only good thing about cold weather is that it gets rid of the spiders until spring.

Spider Spray

I don't mess with the masthead but do use spider spray on the docklines and the transom area where most spiders hang out on our boat. Many dead spiders and no return yet. Spray claims to last 3 months even if it rains. No rain yet so we'll see. The Admiral says the spiders must go and the Admiral must be made happy.

What kind of Spray?

What is it called? Where can you buy it? I have used a product called Demon, but it leaves a brown residue on everything.

We leave the upper rigging...

to the spiders, but do spray around the entire deck area. Mostly we make sure t spray the rub rail. You can find thousands of those little creatures living underneath it. And when we do spray we also spray the docklines. Then the only way on is by air. We still get them, but not as many. I think the last time my wife just used a commercial spider spray from Wally's World. Could have been RAID, just can't remember. Once every 3-4 months usually works.

Spider spray

Unlike most I am fortunate to not have a spider problem on the boat. However, I have a detached garage that they like to make their home in. I recently tried Ortho Home Defense insect spray for the first time. It's a preventative, barrier type product. Spraying it around the perimiter of the garage seems to have killed most of the buggers, and prevented new ones from crawling in. It's supposed to be good for 6-12 months, I believe. Perhaps a spray application of this stuff along the dock and on the dock lines would be helpful. Randy

Spider Ban

I bought it at a home improvement center. It is clear and has not discolored the boat.
