I would like to know if any other hunter owners are experiencing the Spider effect on the lewmar hatch windows. My Boat is 2 years old and I stay on top of if religiously with maintnance and cleaning. I have noticed that all the windows that open are experiencing this problem. Other than that I am thrilled with this vessels performance and dependability.

I don't believe there is anything you can do. I even had covers made and I think that made them worse. I don't use them any more. Just keep them clean; never use any glass cleaner since the amonia will kill them and use Meguire's plastic polish system a couple of times a year. Then just quit looking at them since that's all you can do. Rick D.

Wax no no

Rod, I am not certain whether fact or fiction, but I am told that using wax on them accelerates the crazing look in the plastic. It is an actual separation of the surface and there is nothing to be done about it short of replacing the plexi/polycarbonate. I would love to hear differently, especially that it can be corrected. What lasts longer polycarb or plexi? Our's also showed signs in about 2 years. Not too good for the cost of these items. for what it's worth, Mike D

I pretty much agree w/ Rick, some of my 2001 - 420's ports and hatches are the same as yours. I've bee using "303" protectant on them; but not sure how much it helps

Lewmar's Recommendation...

This was copied off of the Lewmar website: "What can I use to clean my hatch & portlight windows? Wash the windows with warm soapy water. All solvents should be avoided as they will cause the acrylic to craze." They have lots of useful info, including spares and parts breakdowns, for all thier products. Steve

Lewmar Hatches

I took delivery of a new H460 4 1/2 years ago and after the first two years all the hatches were bad. The boat has been in Newport Beach and well maintained and nothing other than boat soap, water and cloth has touched the hatches. Having about 6,000 dollars worth of Lewmar hatches, I called Lewmar and shared my concern. I was told that the hatches were our of warranty and the spidering, crazing and clouding was not unexpected after two years. They sold me replacement lensesfor each hatch at their cost which was around $600. I replaced each hatch lens which requires many hours of labor for the entire job. Its now been a little over two years and about half the hatches are going bad. Ultimately, i plan on having a local plastic company make my lenses. I would never buy a Lewmar hatch.
