Spider cracks

My Hunter is about 23 years old now, and there has been some spider cracking around the shrouds, near some of the rails and in a various other spots. Nothing major, but I have noticed that some have grown longer, and more cracks have appeared over the last few years. Questions: 1. Is this going to cause structural issues? 2. Is there a way to fix them? 3. I was thinking of mixing up some marinetex and filling them in. Is this OK? 4. Is it normal, or have I done something wrong along the way? Any links or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Tim, as to whether the cracks indicate...

structural problems I would defer that issue to a good marine surveyor. As far as repairing the cracks you can use a Dremel tool to cut a small trough along the crack and then fill it with gel coat from a repair kit and sand it smooth. Terry

West Marine sells

WM sells something that you can put in the crack. It will displace any water and it dries clear. It is called something like crack seal and comes in a small tube.

Warren M.

"Capt Tolley...

Creeping Crack Cure," comes in a small bottle and is very useful in sealing small cracks. This stuff appears to be a liquid epoxy and dries clear. I've use this stuff all over my boats and it works well for what it is. Don't expect this product to "fix" structural damage. Its primary purpose is to seal up small cracks and it does that very well. Costs under $10, a bargain.
