How do I know which paddle to replace the old, nonfunctioning one I currently have? It's for a Catalina 27, 1979. Speedometer brand is Superior Horizon, they offer a number of paddles. Is there a way to know which before I take out the old one? Have not done this task before is there anything I need to be aware of or watch out for?

Standard Horizon has not sold knotmeters in the US for at 10 or 15 years. Finding a replacement could be a challenge.
If you have the model number of the instrument contact Airmar.com to see if they have one that would work. Airmar makes most of the transducers.
Are you sure it is the paddle wheel that is faulty and not the display unit?

Thanks. Display is working and I followed the wiring which appears to be OK. Veiwed a few Utube videos and they trace the problem to the paddle.
