Hello, On my recently purchased 1979 30' O'Day I found the speed sensor laying beside a tube which goes through the hull. Close to it is what I assume to be the depth sensor which is presently mounted in the metal tube through the hull. What is the correct way to mount the speed sensor in this tube and is there a way to check the speed sensor and finally can this also be removed once the boat is in the water??

CaptainRon, the tube in which the speed sensor mounts should have a keyway, so it will only go in one way. There should be a ring on the top of the sensor which threads onto the tube through the hull. On my boat, I have a blank plug that I put in after I remove the speed sensor from the through hull - keeps the critters from fouling the paddle while the boat is sitting. Hope this helps.
