Hi,

I need to purchase a new Jib Halyard for 272LE... My owner's manual is not with me at the moment - I'd like to purchase it on the way going to the boat in a day or two and won't be able to return to house to get the manual....

Can someone let me know:

Length/Width/ what to do on each end of the halyard/ other important info?

Thanks,

DanR

PS : Additional bonus question: My 272LE outhaul, running from aft to fore through the boom, is threaded out through the wrong place in the boom near the gooseneck... IE there are three "holes" at the fore of the boom where a line can come down, one has a cleat to lock the outhaul, but currently my outhaul line is coming out of one of the other ones, ergo no cleat. Anyone recommend a good way to thread it correctly without taking off the boom?

THanks,

DanR

Dan, when I replaced my outhaul, I used a small safety pin and connected the new line to the old line and it worked. I suppose I was just very lucky. I also did the same to replace the topping lift. I can't help on the jib halyard as our original jib halyard was never installed at the factory...there was a messenger for us to use that we never used since the cruising design furler came with an external halyard. The original messenger line fell to pieces inside the mast to the point it was never useable as it was a thin line which one could attach a real line to. I have my original 272 manual downstairs if you need me to check. And yes, you want the outhaul to exit the boom thru the center block/cleat at the gooseneck fitting. Let me knw if you need the size of line from the manual. ...It's snowing and thundering here in Wichita....Weird spring.

Pat,
Thanks -- yes if you could read the Jib Halyard specs from the manual (the page with all the details of the measurements for the running rigging) i'd appreciate that./

Yeah at the moment the outhaul exits teh boom NOT thru the center hole. Its difficult to push the line back in and then rethread it out...

My 87 272 has a CDI 2, however another 272 in my marina has a different model.
According to the CDI pdf I have you need:
Halyard Assembly, ¼” x 33’

Dan, I am remembering now that after I pinned the two lines together with the safety pin I wrapped the junction point w/black electrical tape and it and the pin held them together so they could go thru the internal blocks on both the topping lift and the halyard. Pat

So, the specs are 33 feet 1/4"... ? What does the manual say to do for each end?
It sounds like that is for the furling line and not for a halyard. The Jib halyard for my 25 is 5/16" and 60'-4" long. FWIW.

If you have a furling Jib, it is only 'about' 30 feet - one trip up forestay to attach top of jib, then down to cleat off at bottom of forestay/furler. If you're talking about a hanked on Jib, then you're looking at 60'+ of rope. Furling line is probably 1/4 " also...

MOST of rope on my '87 272 is 3/8. But then there is a caveat about hull #s. Maybe larger (?) prior to #591 for 272 and #623 for 272LE with Isomat spars. Z Spars start with #379 for 272 and #276 for 272LE. Specs do not show a 'Jib Halyard', only Main Halyard, Main Sheet, Genoa Sheet, Topping lift, Reef, & Outhaul.

All 3/8 except: Isomat Spat - Topping lift is 1/4, ZSpar Top lift & Outhaul are 1/4, Reef line is 5/16.

Dan, per Charles' note above, a jib halyard is not listed. Mine is the Z-spar mast and my furler is the Cruising Design CDI 2. Charles is right in that with the furler, the 1/4 line is used to hoist the headsail in the extrusion. We have to attach a 1/4 inch line to the furler halyard as it is only 30 some feet long.. and when the sail is lowered in the extrusion the 30 ft. does not allow the halyard to come back down to the deck...so I think Charles is exactly right. I do now have my manual if you need more help with anything manual wise. Patrick
