is mild enough to sail at least some of the time every month. We pull the boat the first week of November to check the bottom, paint if necessary and give her the once-over. Magic to November is it is still warm enough for paint and the discounts at the boat yards start Nov. 1st. Once back in the water if it is mild we sail; if not we ski. When temp. hits the low 50's we start waxing the topsides--actually this week.

On our part of the planet

We typically pull around Dec 1, from then on it is work to be done on the inside. Starting in March I switch to any outside things that need to be done. Depending on completion I splash the last week of March or April 1st. This winter we could have stayed in the water and sailed up to about two weeks ago. It got COLD. We will be have the cockpit enclosed this spring which should allow us to sail longer. Jim S/V Java

Same as the Puget Sound, in the Gulf Islands we

sail all year, weather permitting. It's usually above freezing during the day. January and February often have clear sunny days with decent breeze. We wear gloves and ear coverings, but no ice in the rigging like the Hobie guy. The Provincial Park anchorages that are crowded all summer can be your own private harbour this time of year.

Ritchie!!!!!!

I'd know that face anywhere. Saw it on enough Wanted posters. Thanks for the pic. Now I don't have to drive down there to see the boat in the water. But of course, there is always McCarthy's for a brew for a buck....so why am I sitting home? I just wish I would have known in November that the boat was staying in the water as the sailing for Nov and Dec must have been great. And who'd a thunk Ritchie would be a SAILOR!!!!!!!

Sometime in May

1. Memorial Day is the latest. This year we hope to get in in April to prepare for our 8 week cruise to the Thousand Islands of the St. Lawrence. 2. Prep is all winter. Serious work starts with signiicant improvements given for Christmas and continues with renewing the varnish on removed wood in Jan/Feb. David Lady Lillie

launch

As Steve O said, Michigan is not known as the Sunshine State! That being said, we have a standing order with our boat hauler to launch the first week in May as close to May 1, as possible Fair winds Dave

Well, I'll probably start...

farting around the boat in mid-March (because I've, personally, had a terrible winter), pulling the cover in early April, working on the hull in mid-April, and launching April 21st (I hope...if all goes well). April is tricky on Lake Erie...it can sometimes mimick November Nor'easters (it can also be a better month than May...you just never know), so I don't really wan't to launch too early. The only thing I'm NOT looking forward to is the summer dockage fees. Just my two cents.
