Since I owned Summer Sojourn (about 2 years), my C-310, I have had water in the bilge. I would clean it out, and it would always return.

A month or so ago, my wife noticed the chainplates leaking while I was washing the topsides, and she was below. Last year, I had a marina do the job, but apparently, it didn’t take very well.

I decided to try and seal them myself. I did the starboard side first, and then the port a couple weeks ago while I was catching up on a bunch of maintenance. I also cleaned and wiped out the bilge.

Yesterday, I went to check on the boat after all the storming in the last week, and by chance pulled up the bilge hatch, and WHOA! The bilge was BONE DRY. First time since we bought her!

I used LifeCaulk LIQUID Polysulfide on the port side, as my tube of LifeCaulk regular broke while I was doing the starboard. COOL stuff (the liquid). Flows into all the cracks and hardens to a caulk consistency. Very easy to use. And apparently, works WELL.We'll see how it stands up.

Any Butyl Tape?

Seems that butyl tape is the preferred solution for re-bedding deck hardware on the main forum (Main Sail is even selling his own favorite). I am thinking about doing mine soon, even though I have not seen any leaking.

Another area to look at, is if you have in-mast furling, water will come down the mast compression post, as it get traped in the mast base. I drilled a weep hole so it would drain. My pants are now dry as well.
