"Anybody have any input as to the best speaker location on the 1986 Hunter 23? I am considering permanent (cutout) mounted 6 1/2 round units."

I copied that sentence off a post in 2000 and I didn't get the answer I wanted there.

I am in the same Boat and I am checking in before I drill with a 5" hole saw.

I wondered if anyone tried the sidewalls below the seats or the very aft corner seat backs.

I personally wouldn't mount speakers in the cockpit of my H23.. but I would love to see how you wind up doing it on your H23 :)

Cheers,
Brad

PS: On several boats I've owned, what I would up doing was using speakers in a small enclosure and kept in the cabin.. there was enough wire so that when docked/anchored, I could bring them out and set on the cabin top for outside listening. That is about as close to 'speakers in the cockpit' I have ever had.

I don't think you want to put holes in your cockpit walls. If it ever filled with water from a wave or something that might let it flow into the cabin.
I've been considering doing the same on my h22 but figured on mounting them in the cabin benches or a enclosed speaker on the bulkheads. I would think the sound would travel to the cockpit fine.

I have both on my 27'. One speaker in the vertical cockpit side opposite the control pane. To finish the stero pair, I mounted a speaker in a nice plywood box that I hang on the mast with a cable into the Vee birth. I have a switch to activate the cockpit speaker.
Do a bit of night sailing here and the drums accross the water is nice.
