I would like to install a CD player and four speakers in my 260 this spring. I am locking for some good ideas on where to install speakers in the cockpit (wheel steering)as well as in the cabin.

re:apeaker locations

I installed cockpit speakers on the front of the center stern locker, one cabin speaker on the wall of the head pointing forward and under the head sink, and the other cabin speaker on the fiberglass wall facing forward just below the galley sink. Good Luck!!

Just be careful.

Reinhold: Just be careful where you install speakers. If you ever plan to have an autopilot the speakers can play havoc with the compass in the autopilot.

Other Sp[eaker Concerns

Consider not cutting holes in the boat to install the speakers. If you ever experience a knockdown the speaker cones will not be able to hold back the flood of water. Also, should you ever want to sell the boat the potential buyer may not like the speaker holes. A small hole for speaker wires is much easier to fill in than speaker holes. Besides the autopilot, the speaker magnets can throw the compass at the helm off too. This depends on the size of the magnets, the quality of the compass, and the distance between the two.

shielded speakers!!

Good point guys!! I forgot to mention that the speakers in the cockpit should be the magnetically shielded type! Also, the location I mentioned for the speakers would not have any effect on water coming in on a knock down.

speakers

We have box speakers mounted under the stern rail seats where there is no foot action. The cabin speakers are under the seats with easy access through the storage compartment.
