It seems that my plastic speaker covers on my outside speakers have cracked and are starting to fall apart. Does anyone know where I can get just the plastic covers for them? Thanks Paul H S/V Linda Belle 95 H26

Speakers

My first thought is for you to contact Hunter. They have a store and you can typically purchase original equipment replacements there. Call 800.771.9463. My second thought is to just switch out the speaker covers with the ones that are in the salon and leave the speakers bare down below. Good luck.

Mine were Poly Planar and I got them at West Marine. Try Radio Shack or any audio store like Best Buy Circuit City etc.

Seaworthy??

I have just received a pair of "Seaworthy" units for my 376. They had to be specially sent to the UK from Hunter's. The original grilles were destroyed by people's feet against the steering console. I am in process of making and fitting some 1" wide stainless strips 10" long to protect them - 2 per spkr. These are complete speakers all moulded in a brittle plastic material. The grille is glued on to the front and appears to be non-removable. Others having this problem might be better, quicker, and more cheaply served by removing the existing speakers, breaking away the thin plastic grilles and replacing them with perforated sheet aluminium or expamet. It is easy to dish and should be then be everlasting.

Try the manufacturer

It took us a while but I searched the WEB and came up with the manufacturers WEB site and phone numbers. In our case it was Standard Horizon and once I got through to the parts dept. they were very helpful. New covers were quite economical <$10 and West Marine or any other dealer would only sell the complete speakers.

Its cheaper and easier too

just put new ones in. West will have some that will fit the same hole exactly, I replaced mine for $25 I think. Just measure the diameter of your speakers and distance from hole to hole for the screw mounts. Take your measures to West Marine and ask to see theirs. If the plastic coverers are gone, chances are the speakers are about to go also.

The Bad News is

that the covers only last a couple of years if the sun can shine directly on them. I have replaced my covers many times, but next time I will replace the speakers. That is because the speakers are now 9 years old and it is time. Then I will go back to replacing the covers again.

TRASH THEM

Go with the best. Pioneer Nautica series They have an new 6 1/2" out that is a killer piece. I've had the older model for the past 5 years and the case looks fine and the speaker sounds great. Model # is TS-MR1640
