Got the Spacreek automatic alternator control on my 1988 boat. Reading online it is used to maintain higher charging rate from alternator- but doesn't real work automatically i think you have to watch the dial. It appears to be outdated technology. Now i'm looking to disable it- not sure if just pulling the fuse out or the wiring needs to be disconnected from the alternator- it was difficult following the wiring from the alternator to the unit. If i disconnect the wiring from the unit will the alternator regulator work as designed?
Anyone have an owners manual?

Thanks
Don

that thing is not a good item to have as it was designed to over power the alt output....i think if you disconnect the wires from the alt that are wired to the gadget and discard it the alt will still work on its own they way the alt was intended to .....in theory it was supposed to bypass the alts temp override and keep the amps output high to create a faster charging rate...thats all i have found on this by googling it ...from what i read it could burn up the alt or even worse start a fire onboard...now mind you this is all opinion on my part from reading about it ...its 35 year old technology and way out of date

send me a pm, I have the manual.

They are very good for their intended purpose, if you learn how to use it. They don't "over" anything - they simply make the most out of the alternator you have. The alternators they were used on didn't have temperature sensors, unless they were Hibatchis.

I also had and used one for many years.

Of course, my hibatchi has that sensor to keep me from burning the burgers!
(couldn't help it, Stu!)

lol shame on me for bad choice of words Stu...what i should have said is it milks every last drop of power the alt has to offer:D what i read also said that you could damage your alt using this thing to its fullest
