I am in the process of rehabbing my new (old) 1976 Hunter is coming out. My wife and I are sanding refinishing all the interior parts as they come out inside for the winter. I am close to taking out the motor, and I am really hoping it will fit through the companionway (straight up) when its ready to go. Anyone have any prior experience. I took the alternator and pump off, am in the process of disconnecting the exhaust. The new diesel will be smaller and a lot lighter, but more power.

Replacement panel

I have not removed the motor on my 81' H30, but when I bought it I was given a panel of fiberglass that matches the main floor square in the cockpit. The story I was told was that the panel was there to act as a replacement for that piece if we ever had to replace the engine. Hopefully your boat is different, or you can remove enough items so it is not an issue.

Had engine removed from 79 H30

Bob, We repowered our 79 H30 a couple of years ago with a 18h Westerbek and the old yanmar came out without damaging the companionway. The new engine is smaller than the old and some modifications had to be made to the structure that the engine mounts are attached to. We also have removed and varnished anything that can be removed. Hope we can remember where everything went as rehab had dragged on for a couple years longer than originally planned. Which is a good thing because we have changed our minds about a couple of things and discovered better products to use. Good luck.
