Hi, looking for a sailboat for daysailing, a few overnites, learning to sail. Locally a sovereign 24 came up for sale. 1997 new 8hp outboard motor, boat looks in good condition. I can't find much info. on this make of boat, not near what is out there on other types so I'm a bit leary. Anyone know how a sovereign sails, known problems?, bad habits sailing? I'm in shallow water area so the shallow draft is attractive. Thanks Doug

Sovereign characteristics

Doug, I own two 23's and the Sovereign I consider above mid class quality. I have own 2 S2's and put it at that range or slightly above that in workmanship. It is a heavy boat so it will be slow in the water. A 24 should weigh in at least 4000 lb. It was built for coastal cruising and lakes like the Great Lakes. Lots of storage and good room below. Great weekend overnight boat and handles great in water. The weight in a sailboat is something I would consider as a lighter one is a lot better in winds of 10 to 15. This boat sails best in winds 15 to 25. Let us know the cost of it?
