Catalina 30 Santa Barbara
Hello,
My 1978 Catalina 30 is located in Santa Barbara, Ca. I am currently in the market to have the deck painted. Could someone suggest a person or company that provides high quality work? I'm not looking for perfection, but a paint job that is not distracting or sloppy.

Thanks

have you discussed this with the local marinas and yards??
when a boat is in a marina and or a boatyard, the usual recommendation is done by the yard or marina in which your boat is docked. there are contractual workers who are employed by the marina or yard, so make sure you do not step on any toes.
do not forget the epa laws involved...
there is also the matter of liability resulting from any problems or accidents occurring with workers on your boat. they are no tcovered if not employed by yard or marina.
easy peasy.
ask dockmaster or yard manager where your boat is docked or hauled.

I am having my hull and deck repainted - ongoing, due to be finished by about Thursday next week.

The quotes from two boat yards were each over $25,000.

I found someone who does this kind of work and he quoted $6,000, paint included (Awlgrip).

I took it to a boat yard that does haul and set and all other work is by owner or approved contractor. They charged $450 to do the haul out and $70 per night for the 17 nights it was there.

My contractor added a bottom job for $600 plus cost of paint (Trinidad) while it was on the hard.

We are totally satisfied with the work and also with the extreme care the yard workers took when putting our boat back in the water. They placed protective paper between the slings and topsides for example.

The only downside is that now our canvas, lifelines and other stuff looks kind of shabby....

ouch . ye know this is neverending. if it aint one thing... listen to gilda, she aint wrong..
the deck painting is cheaper here in mexico--so are canvas works. and you wont know exactly what kinda canvas you will want until you get out and about anyway. ask me how i know.lol
so buy a roll or two of sunbrella and get ideas from others; dont forgt the threads
if you arecoming south, triage your projects so you cann make good with cheaper prices than the norm of
105 usd per hour in kalifornikasha
as for deck painting, prep it, paint it and save dough.
