RE: my last post

My last post was in no meant to nullify the rough weather those on the west coast and elsewhere are experiencing. As that weather was the true intention of this thread.

Bryon Thomas, Those scare tactics are not

what is causing the arctic ice cap to melt. Glaciers are receding in all parts of the world. We are in a period of global warming and human activity is a contributing factor . Not the only factor but one of many. If you read history, human activity has managed to pollute every harbor and river in the industrial world. There was a time when the Cuyahoga River caught fire. Lake Erie was once so polluted that there was concern that it would become a dead sea. I am sure that my grandchildren will see the advent of ocean shipping lane across the arctic ocean. Already there have been passages made from the Atlantic to the Pacific north of Canada. http://www.ohiohistorycentral.org/entry.php?rec=1642

I went looking for more information and found this. Just as Steven Milloy states that the warnings of global warming are spin he also seems to be a very capable spinmiester himself. http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Steve_Milloy

Rain, rain, rain...

Rained all night, very heavy at times. Wind was howling also. Rain has now somewhat let up but I am sure will be back. Wind is still blowing. To be honest, I enjoy this kind of weather. Anything for the everyday cycle of warm, sunshiny days.

I don't dispute the fact that we have, and continue to abuse this planet. The Cuyahoga River and Lake Erie are less than 50 miles from my house. People have been indiscriminately dumping Lord only knows what for a long time. (Followed some moron who pitched a McDonalds bag out the window just yesterday.) But the climate has been changing hot & cold throughout history. I don't deny our actions may be a contributing factor, but not the cause. Like I said before, warming now, cooling 1970's, warming 1950's, cooling 1920's. Another reply earlier said the forecast seems to be exaggerated, I am only saying that so is Global Warming. I don't deny it's existence. Better cut this off. More appropriate for the Sails Call Forum.

Sorry, Bryon

but you can't just make comments like that and then expect the discussion to be "cut off". Just take one indisputable fact that should be of huge concern to all humans, and sailors first and foremost: the changing ph balance of the world's oceans. They are becoming more acidic, due to increased absorbtion of of CO2, which forms carbonic acid in the oceans. This, along with warmer waters, is causing the world's coral reefs to bleach and die. It is also threatening the ocean's population of microscopic shell fish, whose shells are literally disolving. No, Byron, this is not just some trend that reoccurs every so often. Our children and our grandchildren will be demanding answers of us. They will be wanting to know why we stood by and allowed this to happen, why we helped create such a huge mess that they now have to deal with. Claiming that we did not know will cut no ice with them. By the way, there hare dozens of books that completely demolish every single argument that the deniers put forward. They are easily available. There are also very good websites such as realclimate.org, that also demolish these arguments. And it is no accident that almost every single one of the "scientists" who deny the reality of human caused global warming is paid by the oil and coal companies. It's just like the "scientists" back in the 50s who denied that cigaretter smoking caused cancer - while they were taking money from the tobacco industry. As far as the rain: I love it! The more the better; it's an agent of life. The only problem is that my dogs don't want to go out to do their business - even my lab mix who loves to swim.

consider the source

Steven Milloy, the unofficial spokesman for powerboaters everywhere, is an attorney who works for Exxon/Mobile, Philip Morris, and Fox "News." Sheesh.

We had gust to

45 kts at the house last night. I'm about 3 miles from Port Susan on Puget Sound. Sea's were to get to 35' at 13 seconds on the Washington Coast, Predicting Huricane winds mid Pacific. Im afraid our lost BC couple is just that.
