For those of you who have not seen Gore's documentary rent it.

Then get back to us. I have seen it at least 5 times. I bought a copy of it and have loaned it to a number of friends and naysayers. Global warming is not the reason I chose not to have children in the early '70's. As a former Science teacher we gathered data on food sources, oil supply and demand, the population bomb, the number of people man can kill in 1 minute and graphed it on a time line. The graph back then with extrapolations went vertical by the year 2020. Factoring the lack of socialization of the human animal things do bode well for the human race. With what is taking place in Pakistan and Afghanistan the nucular (in the word of our esteemed president) threat is greater than ever. That is why I make it a point to enjoy everyday one day at a time. We are very fortunate with out mild weather in Southern California, in my younger days of more stamina we would go skiing in the day time and lobster diving that same night. The price of seemingly endless rain has its rewards in the Pacific North West, ie. the Olympic forest. I may kid Charleycobra but I admire his gusto for life. I know its tough on the people in Malibu after the fires with flooding and mud slide, I used to live there. With the rain the area will recover fairly quickly. Enough said back to the honey-do's. Caguy is right

If you dont want to watch Al Gore, just watch Nat'l Geographic channel or History or TLC or Discovery Channels on shows NOT ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING but on mountain climbing or skiing or animal migrations and there will always be a small comment, (not necessarily meant to be political) about where the snow lines and glaciers are now and where they were only 30 years ago. For the non-believers, where do you ever come up with the 'Global Cooling " in the seventies? I was around then, and this is a first to me. It is a great come-back though. Tony B

Hurricane

must have hit Eastern Oregon. Friday morning we had temp of 60 degrees and winds of 78 MPH. Many trees up rooted, roofs torn off and structures destroyed here. I've been without electricity, cable TV, internet, radio or newspaper until this evening. Local Drive in movie theater built in 1953 blown over. But no rain as of yet.

Ross, In post #24 I think you meant to say, "Already there have been passages made from the Atlantic to the Pacific THROUGH northern Canada". EG

Echo Gulf, To be even more precise, I should have

said through the territorial waters of Canada. I am not sure where Canada ends and the international waters of Arctic Ocean begins in that region. ;)

Here's some history on 1st boat to do NW Passage

The RCMP schooner St Roch was the first ship to travel the treacherous Northwest Passage in both directions, as well as the first ship to ever circumnavigate North America. Visitors to the Vancouver Maritime Museum can take a self-guided tour of the ship (restored to exactly how it looked in 1944) and view an informative video about its history and adventures. St Roch was built in 1928 as a supply ship for isolated, far-flung Arctic RCMP detachments. St Roch navigated the Northwest Passage from west to east between 1940 and 1942 becoming the first ship to do so and only the second ship to traverse the Passage after a three-century quest to find and navigate across the top of the world. In 1944, St Roch traveled the more northerly route of the Northwest Passage from east to west, becoming the first ship to do so in both directions. The RCMP retired St Roch in 1948, and sent it to Halifax by way of the Panama Canal in 1950. This voyage made St Roch the first ship to circumnavigate North America. After a voyage to supply RCMP outposts on Hudson's Bay, the ship lay idle until 1954. That year the City of Vancouver bought the ship for display as a museum piece. Returning to Vancouver ship in 1954, St Roch languished until hauled ashore at the site of the Vancouver Maritime Museum in 1958. The ship acquired a permanent indoor home in 1966. Parks Canada restored St Roch to its 1944 appearance between 1967 and 1974.
