South for the Summer (ICW)

Hello all!
I'm moving my boat from Norfolk to New Bern in May/June timeframe and was wondering if anyone else was planning on making the same trip at the same time. I only draw 4' and was hoping to go the Dismal Swamp route. I'm interested in any thoughts on timeframe, experiences, any "must-do's" along the way, etc. Thanks in advance!

Did that in fall of 2007, Lake Erie to Matthews Point near Havelock. Missed the 0900 opening of the Dismal lock and had to wait until 1500(picture). Dinghied ashore and walked into town for groceries. We passed the Visitor Center, too many boats. We tied up on the wall of the south lock, climbed the wall and went to a little diner. Probably should have spent some time in Elizabeth City. Had a great sail across Albemarle Sound. Stayed at the Alligator River Marina right at the swing bridge. Then on to the River Forest Manor, great dinner there at the marina and manor. Finally over to Matthews Point, great place although a little remote. I liked being that close to Beaufort and Morehead City. For years we vacationed at Atlantic Beach. Boat was there for over a year except for some refitting work I did at Oriental. Great boat yard there, Sailcraft.
