columbia 8.7 Lake Murray, SC
I am new to sailing and this 8.7 Columbia. It is in the water at Winward Point near Irmo, SC. FIRST, I will need to secure a suitable mooring/dockspace for this honey of a project. Then I'd like to earn some sea legs as the project is mostly me. First things first though, I seek a suitable spot, remote is ok as long as there is parking. I recently purchased it from the govt. and it comes from Ft Jackson.(?)Can army guys really float? I have yet to take possession. Location is not as important as the economics. I can pay up front. I also need a cradle for land options/transportation. I'm geeked about my new boat and I cant wait to get underway! Any advice that will lend a hand is appreciated....G

Well firstly you really do not need a cradle. A transport vehicle will have an adjustable trailer for hauling the boat. Or are you thinking of moving it yourself?

Then for out of the water storage you can use poppits(adjustable stands). I think you would have a very hard time finding or making a cradle. I did see one where the poppits were simply welded to a frame of heavy four inch channel. Might be okay for storage and a very slow and short move.

Lake Murray Sailing Club is an excellant place to work on a Sailboat. Think about joining! It is very reasonable. Check their web site. They are located in Chapin, S.C.
