I am working on leaking window on my 1981 Catalina 25. I have read all the threads and ordered the weatherstrips from Catalina Direct. Now the problem begins. the windows on my boat differ from what information I have read about in other threads. specifically: The window frames only split on one end verses both ends The window appears to be glued to the inner lip of the outer channel The only weatherstrip is a small rubber strip that fits between the outer channel lip and the glass. I called Catalina and Catalina Direct and they tell me that there is only one style window. In examining other Catalina 25's the window frame and glass mounting are different. Is anyone aware of a change in windows. Mine appear to be as old as the boat. Can anyone suggest where I can go to get this outer seal. A crosssection of the seal appears to be a bit like a triangle with one side extended about 1/8".

hello roger, you could try a place that services travel trailers and winabago( winnabago, winabaggo, winnabaggo how ever it is spelled ). john

Window frames

Take a look at the inside of the window frame at the point where you see the two sections meet. On our C27, there is a short piece of aluminum held in place with two sheet metal screws. This piece holds the frame together on that end. You must remove the rubber strip next to the window in order to see this. Now check the other end of the frame for a similar connecting piece. If it's there, you have a 2-piece frame. It may appear to be solid due to some sort of epoxy filler applied during construction. The flange that is screwed to the window from the inside of the boat has a split at only one point. It is very thin material and does not actually hold the glass in place.

Another option

Another option that I tried and was quite successful with. I have a 22 and it had a leaky window somewhere between the glass and the aluminum frame. I was going to get a new seal but couldn't find one locally. I found a dealer in my city (Halifax, Nova Scotia) called Kidston Glass (they specialize in aluminum window for commercial use). They simply took a sharp knife and cut away the visible rubber seal. Then they put a grey colored sealer (not silcone - I can find out what it was if you would like to try this option - let me know camkelly@canada.com). This did a beautiful job, the leak is gone, it looks great and they say it should last as long as I am on the planet. BTW when putting the window back in the hole I simply cleaned the area by removing any silicone/caulk and cleaning it up with rubbing alcohol. Then a put a very generous bead of silicone around the inside part of the frame and pushed it into the hole. Put the screws back in and left the excess silicone (that oozed out) alone for a few days until it hardened. Then I took a sharp knife and cleaned away the excess. I am very happy with the results.
