Another project. I'm wanting to install a CD/radio system in my Hunter 25.5. Currently there is none. I most likely will purchase the radio from the local West Marine shop. I had in mind to mount the radio somewhere around the aft berth, close to the wiring connections. Mount 2 smalls speakers inside..... and (here's the part I'm nervous about)cut 4 inch holes in the fiberglass, either side of the companionway door and mount two waterproof speakers facing aft. Is this what most of you have done or can you suggest a better idea.....less permanent??

Woody, If you installed two a couple of mounts (modified hose clamps?), you could use portable speakers and mount them on the aft stern rails. There are a number of sockets that you could rig so that the speakers plugged into the aft part of the lazerettes to connect to the amp. The FM/CD could be mounted next to the electrical panel (out of the way of feen hitting the knobs). This would also provide a convenient 12v hook-up. Or, you could buy a boom box and put it in the cockpit (what we do).

Radio and Speakers

You can install box speakers. They come with integrated tweeters, midranges and woofers. They are made by several companies. They sound great.

We have a neat little unit on our 25.5

It's small enough to store under the vee berth. It has a cd player, stereo and small color tv. It runs on ac/dc so it can be plugged into the 12v socket on the port side of the counter under the companionway.

Inside out

If you would like music both in the cabin as well as in the cock pit, try the box type speakers on a swing arm. Mount one on each side of the companion way so it can swing either way. Or, as I'm going to do, install the wiring and jacks/plugs to the port and starboard lockers and then plug the speakers in when needed. Unplug and store in the cabin when finished for the day. You can mount with clamps (as previously mentioned), velcro, or speaker mounts. I'd refrain from drilling 4" dia holes. Best of luck. Bob
