I need to replace the heat proof / sound proof barrier on the inside of my engine compartment. Any recommendations on which material to use? Any instillation suggestions from someone who has done this before (the engine is in place)?

I have a C30 1988 And I sound proofed the moter last year with some stuff from Defender marine it was 3/4 " thick with foil on the out side with lead sheeting between two 3/8" foam sheets .the stuff is a little pricey but very good .I couldent hear my self think down below with the moter on . now its great i can even talk on the phone I just took all the stuff off the moter compartment and put it on top of the foam. I have used Dyna Mat before on the inside of engine cowls. If dyna mat is too expensive, there is a company called Fatmat that is half the cost and offers the same heat and sound deadening principals. I put 2 layers inside my 9.9hp outboard and it quited it down a lot.

I took off the insulation material
of the engine cover on our 83 h27 as it was crumbling with the intentions of replacing it. That was six months ago and I think I'll leave the cover without it. Heat has not been a factor and have not noted any increased engine noise.

insulating the engine box
A few years ago I used some stick on insulation about 12 inch thick that I purchased from Sailors solutions. It came in 1 foot squares, and had a peel off backing that stuck on the inside of the box. It worked very well in insulation the heat and noise on the Yanmar 2Qm15 dieslel that was in my old O"Day 30. The pieces are purchased by the square.
