Hunter 23.5 Various
Our H23.5 has a Davis Tiller Tamer like this:
http://snipurl.com/zagcx
It works fine but takes up a lot of space and we're constantly tripping over the lines etc.

So I was wondering if anyone has seen any kind of friction device that effectively does the same thing but takes up just a little space? (See attached marked-up image.)

Thanks,
Tom

I use the tiller tamer as you do on a Hunter 23.5. However, I do not have it located in the same place. I attached the tiller tamer on the tiller at the point where the tiller is going up at an angle. I put fairleads on the stern section (between the motor and the swim ladder). Cam cleats were added on the aft part of the stern.

I wanted to stop the tiller from its easy motion and this does the trick. I'm sure it's not as stable as it would be if I had lessened the angle on the line, but the tiller no longer "wanders" and holds a pretty good course.

Here is a link to the Cajun Tiller Tamer. Very low tech, low cost, not permenant and fairly reliable. Whenever I single hand I can rig it in about 2 mins. If you don't want to spring for an auto pilot this is a very easy fix :)

Never heard it called a Cajun Tiller Tamer before, but that's what I've done before on my 19 and 25's. From your picture it looks like you have a stanchion or bimini base at the rear corners....you can secure a line to one of them, lead it to the tiller and wrap it a few times around, and lead it to the other base on the opposite side. In fact, the gooseneck in your tiller would do a nice job of "holding" the wrap in place.
