Bulls Eye on our back
This place is going crazy. Mandatory evacuation for some parishes starting at noon today. Curfews beginning this evening. I 10 both east and west bound was bumper to bumper at 5AM this morning. Gasoline is already getting a little scarce and going to be hard to find by late today. If it continues as predicted it could well be as bad as or worse than Katrina, and is now forecast to hit around 1 or 2 AM Tuesday, and possibly sooner as it appears to be speeding up. The eye is forecast to go slightly west of here, which puts us on the east, or strong, side, which will push a tremendous surge of water up the river and into the lake. At this time they are not predicting a surge as high as with Katrina. I was very tempted to head east with the boat, but can't get past Pensacola without going offshore. Don't want to do that. They are talking about 20 to 30 foot seas. If it should jog east I would be much worse off than if I stayed here. So will just anchor out in the canal as with Katrina. And cross my fingers. Biggest worry is some idiot not securing his boat, and it comes down onto mine. Stores are already sold out of generators, batteries and flash lights are getting hard to find. I had a cousin here yesterday, trying to get out of town. We couldn't get a airline, train or bus ticket out of town. No rental cars left either. Finally found a single seat on a flight to Chicago leaving at 7 AM this morning. They have been evacuating people since early this morning by bus who do not have their own transportation, and are evacuating the hospitals. The City of New Orleans is kind of unique in that many people do not own a car. Lots just have bicycles they ride around town. The national guard has been called in, and I guess about the only thing left is for martial law to be declared.
