A friend gave us a tour of a boat building/repair facility nearby on Wednesday. I knew about this business but had only seen their Greenport facility.
They are building a custom "8 Meter" yacht for a client and are slated to build a second, the same, after they finish this one. Launch date is in June.
Along with the tour we saw some of the authentic hardware collected here and there. That is where I saw the bronze windless. Wow, what a chunk of bronze!

yall do realize that at one time all that nice work was done totally without power tools and that the tools they used would all fit in a footlocker and the woodworkers for arms were hard as rocks

I had the pleasure to deliver a 1923 Herreshoff Q boat from the north end of Vancouver Is. To Bellingham Wa. It was built by the Herreschoff Manufacturing Co. In Bristol RI. The Q boat is very similar in size and type to the 8 meter. The workmanship on the boat was really something. It was close to the most fun I have had on a boat. She is in her 9th decade and still being sailed and races very competitively here on Puget sound. It is good to see boats of a similar design being built. Google "Q boat Grayling"

I have an outside shot at being on the delivery up the Sound in June. I'd better start working that connection!
