Solution to Capri Bimini

Through experimenting, I found a way to get a bimini on a capri 22. I reefed the mainsail by just one reef but, instead of lowering the sail, I raised the boom. The boom only went up by about 10 inches but it made all the difference in the world. It now has enough room under it to tack without any passenger having to duck. It also is high enough to accomodate a standard bimini that the regular catalina 22 owners have. I keep the boom horizontal by installing a Boomkicker which you can buy for about $185 which eliminates the need for the pig tail on the backstay and, better yet, keeps the boom up at all times so you can lower sail without having to attach the pigtail to the boom (an impossible task unless you're pointing directly into the wind). The loss of sail hasn't materially affected performance whatsoever.
