Hi, I am a novice sailor trying to get some help. I am in a process of buying a 1982 26' S2, but as I step on the cockpit sole it's flexing under me the same happens on deck. Are these surfaces cored or is it solid fiberglass? Thank you in advance for your help.

For me it was worth it. I really like this kind of work. Did it take a while? Absolutely. If you want to know how I did it and where I got all the material, I can email you with pictures. I believe mine is better than when it was new. I put an area of thicken epoxy approximately 1" around ever bolt and screw that goes into/through the deck. I did my re-coring from underneath. Once I got a system going, it went well.

Under the sole I used pouring foam and it is really solid. BTW the center post on mine was only sitting on 1/2 of it's support. I have talked with others and they have told me that their post was only on part of their support too. I beefed it up to 4 layers of 1/2 plywood and made it 3 times bigger than the base plate of the post and centered the post right in the middle.

Another thing is that I got to know every inch of my boat and can fell confident that she is solid.

Lord. I hereby nominate you to the S2 Hall of Fame. That's some amazing job you've done. I'd love to have you email me pictures and any details of how you accomplished this - particularly the deck work done from underneath. I keep trying to lose enough weight and wear big enough shoes that I don't get any of that damned delam creaking, but I don't think that approach is going to work much longer!
