I am installing a propane locker in the stern lazarette of my 1983 Hunter 34. The locker comes with a solenoid switch. 1) The switch panel has a wire that goes to the positive "terminal" and a wire that goes to the negative "terminal". Are they referring to the AC/DC panel or directly to the battery itself? 2) The wires that come directly off the solenoid has one that goes to the switch panel and one that goes to the negitive "terminal". For the negative terminal does this hook directly to the battery or to the AC/DC panel? Thanks for the help.

Standard procedure would be to pick up

positive 12V [red]at a fused or circuit breaker protected terminal at the power panel ... That +12V goes to one side of the switch and comes out the other side of the switch [because all you want to do is turn the solenoid on or off] and then that +12v goes to the solenoid red side ... and then the other selenoid line goes to the negative side of the battery or a distribution terminal that leads back to the negative side of the battery. You also probably have a light on the switch that requires a negative to light the bulb or LED ... and that explains the need for the negative line off the switch. Generally you are supposed to mount the switch on the other side of the cabin from the stove so that you can shut off the gas away from the stove. Vic "Seven"

Switch detector

Buy yourself a Trident LPG detector and switch panel and follow the directions. If you are going to make this conversion do it right and install the detector also. You will sleep better at night. Dan Sheehan PS They also include a leaflet as to ABYC and NFPA standards regarding LPG instalations.
