Solatek = Marinco-Nicro vent?

I'm replacing my old Nicro day-night vent with new Marinco day-night. I didn't go with solatek, the other brand, 'cos there's need to cut the hole larger. Well, my thought was since Nicro and Marinco is same company why wouldn't the hole be same size. How was silly was I to think that!!

Yes, the day/night solar vent models have batteries, my point was the model has to specifically be a day/night version. Nicor/Marinco still makes a non battery solar vent (n20020) and used to make (not sure if still available) a 4” solar vent that could be wired into the 12v system but did not have an internal battery.
The non battery options have slightly smaller hole sizes than the day night models, so if you are replacing an old model it is important to know if you have a day/night model or not.
Moot point now for the poster, but could come in handy for someone else. It is possible in my case the original Installation of my first generation day/night had the hole slightly oversized.

I coincidentally spent a half-hour on the phone today with a Marinco tech to find the best/easiest vent to replace my older NICRO Day/Night 2000 4" vent. The new 4" day/night vents will use the existing hole (the one on my boat is ~ 4.25"). A new plate ring is required, but it should use your existing screw holes. The new 3" and 4" vents are essentially identical except of course for the size of the hole and fan blades, and the outer circumference of the 3" is ~ 1" smaller than the 4". Hope this helps.

They work some of the time... You may need to stick a light outside on the deck to charge the fan. But with so much wind blowing over the top of the vent it may suck all the air out of the boat.
