Has anyone had success with solar vents? I am looking for a thru deck application that can also be secured water tight when necessary. Ideally the unit would be flush mount and would be able to keep rain water out. Trying to keep the temps down when the boat is unattended. Thankyou

Nicro Solar Vents

I installed one of the Nicro Solar vents in 1997, and it still runs 24 hours a day with little maintenance. I would recommend the 4" stainless model to really move some air. They come with two fans, one for each direction (exhaust, or intake).

I added a Nicro solar vent fan on my forward hatch. It works fine and has not leaked any rain or wash water. I lake sail and cannot comment on whether waves breaking over the bow would cause a problem. The vent is easily removed and it comes with a flush mount cap that plugs in when the vent is removed.

Solar vent

I found a solar vent at this place and have had it installed for 2 years. It has never leaked. $50! Mine does not have a battery in it and only runs during the day but it has worked fine. They have tons of 12 volt items. John

Thankyou for the feedback

10+ from the Nicro is pretty respectable. The Sea Dog seems like you get a break by dealing direct with the mfg., and the C.E.T. for $50 is real hard to beat. Thanks again for giving me a base line to start out from.
