I would like to install a solar powered vent on my 87 catalina 25. I have read how some have been installed on the forward hatch, but I worry that it would leak , being on an angle. Any suggestions?

I have a solar powered vent that I installed forward of the mast step. It is a Nico 3" with stainless cover (for stepping/tripping on without breaking). The inside received a teak trim ring with vinyl screening for creepy crawlers and flying insect protection. Location was chosen because it is the highest part of the boat and right over the porta-potti on a C22. The vent came with two fan blades, I used the exhaust rather than the intake/supply. No regrets or leaks.

Get the PowerVent 3000 for the Forward Hatch
Louie, Get the Powervent 3000 for the forward hatch because it has a sliding sleeve that totally blocks water from flowing in. I have had the Nicro 24hr vents on 4 different boats and the slant is not the problem. I had sailed and motored quartering into waves and driving rain with hardly a drop. BUT - when I motored directly into steep 5 footers they broke on my forward deck, rolled up to the hatch just like a beach, and poured in. You can pull out the vent and insert the deckplate on the standard 24hr vents IF you know ahead of time OR send someone out to the forward deck to do it while the waves are crashing OR if you have the 3000, just walk into the forward berth and slide the sleeve closed and flip the motor switch off. I learned the hard way because no way my wife was going to go forward or take the wheel. This was a coulple days into a 2 week cruise with a lot of our clothes in the forward berth - it is worth the extra money !! Stan "Christy Leigh" c320 #656
