solar vent choices

Hello,

I would like some help in selecting solar vents for my O'Day 302.
One of the original ones broke into many pieces as the plastic it was made with disintegrated after 22 years. I cannot locate identical ones so I will have to replace both vents.
I have a on/off switch inside the cabin as well to select between the boats battery or solar power. I haven't found one and would like some assistance in finding a good one that is reasonably priced.

I use cowl vents and computer fans with a dedicated small solar panel. You can get a 4 watt solar panel on Ebay for about 20 bucks and cannibalize fans from thrown away computers.

I'd go with Nicro vents. :) Great customer service, solid products...

I'll second Sail Dogs recommendation for Nicro vents. Had them in the last two boats and loved them. Both solar but no on/off switch. Instead you just remove the fan blade and/or insert the cover. I always bought the ones with the stainless covers. Looked great and lasted longer. They make a variety of them so you should be able to find one that works for you.

Marinco/Nicro day & night units. The newer units have replaceable batteries. They also have screens in them to keep the insects at bay.

Not cheap, but they will run whether or not you are there.

I just bought 2 SS Sunsei Solar Vents for 125$ at amazon.com. They move more air than the largest Nicro. Also you don't have to pop them out to close them up. But nicesest of all is that they have an easy to access switch that allows you to turn off the fan and to switch them between intake and exahust. They are held down by 6 SS screws as opposed to the 3 or 4 that Nicro uses, making it pratical to use the water-proof gasket instead of sealant. IMHO, they are superior in every way to Nicro and they are less expensive. Amazon even gave me free shipping.

Shortly after ordering them I got an email saying that they weren't going to be shipped for another month. I got them within 5 days. Go figure.
