last year I bought a solar panel to trickle charge the house batt. it is connected directly to one of the batts. is there any reason I couldnt buy another to connect directly to the other house batt? I didnt want to go to the expense of wiring the two panels together with a regulator. any thoughts?

Solar Panel Sizes re Battery Bank Capacity

Dan Read the West Marine Advisor about sizing panels. You need a regulator if your panel exceeds 1 1/2% of the house bank capacity. Stu

Batteries Isolated ?

Stu's right. Should be OK as long as your two batteries are isolated from each other, and the solar panels don't exceed 2% max. of battery capacity. ie: Most batteries will be rated < 100 A/H = 1250W) Most small Solar Cell Trickle Chargers will be rated much < 2 Amps = 25 A/H) 25 / 1250 = 2% Really small Trickle Chargers might not require isolated batteries, but you'd want to have "blocking diodes" to prevent 1 cell from backfeeding the other.
