A little off the subject, but here is one way we kept the battery topped off while at anchor, or during storage. Output is low, so there was no worry about boiling the battery, but even after a weekend of using the radio and stuff, the battery is topped off for the next weekend. Plus, it come's apart to store when not in use. There is a built-in diode to prevent dis-charging at night. The other end has a standard 12v plug that is attached to a recepticle wired directly into the 12v buse on the boat. It was pretty cheap to make using plumbing supplies from my local Home Depot.
