Solar Panel Mounts & Garmen Antenna

I am working on some ideas for mounting a solar panel off the pushpit.
I noticed a couple links in the forum, but it seems like they are out
of stock until March 2009. Does anyone have a supplier for some type
of rail clamp or panel mount that I can use or retrofit for our solar
panel? I can do some minor fab work, but nothing heavy duty.

Also, I would like to mount the Garmen GPS antenna. Does anyone know
of a supplier for a rail or backstay mount for a Garmin GPS antenna?
It looks like the thread diameter on the antenna mount is about 1
inch. It would screw into a standard 1 inch pipe thread.

Thanks,
Jack

West Marine has a small solar panel (the Sunsei) that also has a really
nifty little mount available separately. It is made by ICG Global
Technologies. If your solar panel isn't too large it is a nice unit that
will fit on a rail and will swivel to almost any direction. If you don't
have the ICG solar panel it might be adaptable.

A standard 1" antenna rail mount will work with the Garman external mushroom
type antenna. Again available at West or any supplier. For the white GPS I
bought one made of white plastic, though there is one available in
stainless. The only difficulty putting it on is not dropping the part into
the drink!!!!!

As Chris pointed out, West Marine has a very clean solar panel
installation that works well. We have two of the Sunsei panels on
Lealea mounted on the stern rail and we are very satisfied with set
up. You can see them in the West Marine catalog by going to the AVA
web site and clicking on any of the WM links and typing "Sunsei" in
the search bar. That will bring up the panels and the mounts. They
show as being in stock at this time. There is a reasonably good photo
of our installation in the photo album in my cruising log under the
entry for October 10th.

Hope this helps.

Thanks all for the advice. I'll took a quick look at the West Marine
mounts and will probably end up with something from there. Thanks for
the advice on the panels. I'll put them on the list for next year.
This year I'll stay with the panel I have. Its older and heavier, but
still works.

Thanks again.
