I would like to install a large solar panel, a Kyocea 130TM, on the horizontal stabilizer bar that connects to the davits on the rear of my boat. I would like to install it length-wise, centered along the bar. The bar is 1 ½” in diameter. The problem is that I haven’t been able to find any mounting system that would facilitate mounting the solar panel in that manner. The closest system is a side pole mount that would orientate the panel so that the width ran across the bar and those systems are for 2” and 4” pipe. I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

are you sure...

Hey Phil... are you sure that the bar you wish to use as a support mount is exactly 1.5"? The reason that I ask is that there ARE pipe-clamps available, but I would need to know the exact outer diameter of the material in order to point you in the right direction. Brian

solar panel

Brian I measured it and it was 1 1/2". I'm going to be on it tomorrow and I'll double check it.

U bolts?

How about a 2 stainless U-bolts that are 1 1/2" ID? These could go around the bar and then through the aluminim flange on the underside of the solar panel. If you are concerned about the pullout from the aluminum, you could add a piece of wood or stainess flat stock between the solar panel and the bar.
