The motor in my Nicro solar vent fan has quit working. Has anyone ever replaced the motor in one of these. Also, are there any less expensive solar vent fans out in the market place vs the Nicros? Thanks,Yeto
if it is the motor, or the battery that has gone bad. I haven't replaced any but consider the little computer fans sold in Radio Shack or scavenged from a junked computer.I drive all of my 3" vent fans from a dedicated solar panel.
Sometimes it is just the motor needs lubricating. I have fixed 2 by taking them apart and putting some oil on the bearings. I let them sit all day it a position that allows the oil to penetrate. Put it back together and it works fine. You may not be so lucky.
I recently disassembled mine - original equipment on my 1992 Hunter 30. Lubricated everything thoroughly. Bought new nicad batteries at Radio Shack. Charged them before installing them - important step! Now both fans are humming nicely day and night. Good luck to you.
I have a powered Nicro powered vent on the forward hatch. It works during the day when the sun is out but at night it does not work. I figure that the battery is dead as it's several years old. My question is; I cannot figure out how to take it apart to clean and replace the battery. I know it looks simple but I am afraid I will break the plastic if I force it. Can anyone help?ThanksMorris
Hi folks, several months ago this same thing came up, I recall it was a bugger trying to find out how to get to the battery. Check the Archives.Jack Hart
Nicro water trap cowl vents and under three of them I placed 3 inch 12 volt fans. Two in the cabin and one in the lazerette. I plan to add a fan in the Bulkhead under the "Vee" berth with a lazy inlet. It got a bit moldy in there last year. Dan, Where are you in Northeast? I have friends in Red Point on Elk Neck.
