My solar day/Night vent no longer runs at nights. I figured it was dead but then I checked it in the sunshine and it was spinning away. Do I just need a new rechargeable battery? Unit is about three years ald. I notice they run about 25 bucks just for a little battery. Anyone know of a third party supplier of the same thing for about 5 bucks?

I replaced the original battery with a C enercell Rechargeable from Radio Shack. It Works great. Stuck it on the charger to top it off before installing in the ventilator.

Last year I purchased two 4500 mAh "C" cell rechargable batteries from greenbatteries.com. They cost $6.79 each plus shipping.

I put one in my Nicro day/night solar vent and it hasn't missed a beat since.

If the battery was left in over the winter, it may have just killed the battery. The daytime charge time in the winter is a lot shorter that the nighttime run time. They consume more amp-hrs that they add in the daytime. I had that happen to mine. Now I always remove the battery in the fall (at the end of a sunny day to leave it charged) and take it home. During the winter (without the battery) it will run in daytime, but not at night - but thats adequate over the winter layup. Unfortunately, those batteries are priced in the $20's. Just bite the bullet and get a new one.

Jibes,

Any "C" rechargeable battery should work fine. I have a Rat Shack battery in mine that works great and continues to spin all night..

If it's a standard battery

If if is a AA or C size, just go to wally world and get a couple. If it's a special size, give ebay a try. Cell phone batteries that are 40 or 50 bucks at the phone store, are 5 bucks or so on ebay. And lots and lots of them.
