Solar controller grounding

The MIdnite Kid solar controller states in the manual to connect a chassis ground. Pictures and details on page 17 if interested in address below. I think this should not be connected to negative bus. So does it connect to engine block which in turn is connected to neg. bus through alternator ground. Or does it connect to bonding system of boat? Any help would be appreciated.

According to the manual it only exist to ensure the outside case is at the same potential as chassis ground or building steel as it should be in an NEC scenario. Because I refuse to buy one more rule book I don't know what the ABYC says about it. You may want to repost this in Maine Sail's forum.
